New Car Incentive - Receive incentives towards the purchase of a new vehicle. Incentive value is based on the greenhouse gas reduction between your old and new vehicles.
To qualify for incentives you must own and currently operate a 1995 or older car or light-duty truck, you must have insured your vehicle for the last 6 months continuously in BC and your vehicle must be in driving condition.

The BC SCRAP-IT® Program is a voluntary early retirement vehicle program that provides incentives to help British Columbians replace higher polluting vehicles with cleaner forms of transportation. The program is designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to lower exhaust pollutants across the province. All scrapped vehicles and their components are permanently and properly recycled.

KEEPING AN OLDER VEHICLE ON THE ROAD MAY BE MORE EXPENSIVE THAN YOU THINK
ENVIRONMENTAL COSTS
Vehicle models 1995 and older emit approximately 19 times more smog forming emissions than 2004 and later models. Replacing a 1990 sedan with a 2009 hybrid can result in a reduction of up to 67% in greenhouse gas emissions.

MAINTENANCE COSTS
Proper maintenance affects the life of your vehicle, your fuel economy and your safety. Neglecting repairs and maintenance can further increase the greenhouse gas emissions from your vehicle. Brake repairs can easily set you back $700; and an oil leak up to $600.

UNEXPECTED COSTS
In 2009, biennial AirCare testing is mandatory for all 1992 to 2002 vehicles in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. 1991 and older vehicles require annual AirCare testing. Taking an older vehicle through AirCare raises the fear of failure – and the repair costs associated with an unsuccessful test can be an unwelcome surprise.

4 SIMPLE STEPS TO APPLY

STEP 1 – APPLY
Fill out the e-application (click here).
Fax or mail your (6 month continuous) vehicle insurance documentation. Copies of insurance documents can be obtained from ICBC. Please call them at 604-661-2800 or 1-800-663-3051.

STEP 2 – GET APPROVED
Wait for your approval email – it will arrive in about 2 business days from the day we receive your complete application, this includes the insurance documents referred to in Step 1.

STEP 3 – SCRAP YOUR VEHICLE
Your approval email will contain all the information that you will need to scrap your vehicle.

STEP 4 – CLAIM YOUR INCENTIVE
Your approval email will contain a link to all the information that you will need to claim your incentive.
